Return, summer, Nas n' Damian

Hibernation is a state of inactivity and metabolic depression in animals during winter. It may last several days or weeks depending on species, ambient temperature, and time of year, and fur on the animal's body.
-wikipedia

We're back after staying indoors all of spring and conserving our body heat in typical swedish fashion!

Today's offering is Nas & Damian Marley's collaborational effort "Distant Relatives", perfect for the sunsets and whatnot!

Formats

When I was sitting on the bus home today I wondered why things went the way they did. Why I had guilt about going home, why my needs seem to excess the normal citizen's need and why my (our) blog only has two followers.
And then I came across the thought that I/we don't change the output format of the albums we upload, we simply mirror links we find. True, both me and Filip don't really burn when it comes to the blog, but I feel like I could take the time and effort to actually convert the albums I upload into a better format.
However, the issue here is that my internet connection is so bad that I can't upload a zip-file without experiencing several crashes of my web browser, so the blog will probably not be active for a while.

Wether it'll be a standard MP3-format with 320 k/bps, v/o or FLAC I'll have to ponder on further. It's fucking late over here.

Hint on next post; it's gonna be America space rock.

Neil Young

Yesterday, I asked my dad what he thought of Bob Dylan. He quickly replied that the guy's very overrated, stuck in the same loop, awful live and that he's a lot like Neil Young. I quickly realised that I'd forgotten about that old piece of moss, that whiny old redneck, that absolutely eternal and immortal rocker.
I immediatley sat down with his greatest hits record and got lost, this man is beyond pretty much all the country music and 60's rock that's ever been released.
Even the material he wrote in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is briliant, the solos, the beautiful vocals and the man's great songwriting has truly delivered him to the place he deserves to be; the top.

I'm only going to post his 60's and 70's albums, since I think this is the best place to start off. I'll have to upload some of my own Young albums since I coudn't find some stuff on the web.
I also didn't include any stuff featuring Crazy Horse.

Black Bloc

In the vein of my latest post, I'll post some more sweet noise.
The group being advertised today is called Black Bloc, and it's a pretty hateful group, even for noise standards.

Tortured screams and ear-piercing feedback makes this a challenging, but definitely satisfying listen if you manage to get through it.
The guys in the group are also kind enough to give away their entire dischography for free, so there's no reason to not download all of their stuff.

Devin Townsend

Yeah, both myself and my pal thought we needed some of this guy's amazing catalogue on our blog. I can't speak for my friend, but to me this guy is a huge source of inspiration both in music and in life. He is, no doubt, one of the most insane/sane persons I've ever listened to and I love everything he has ever done equally. I encourage you to check out some of the interviews he's done, because he seriously does pack huge amounts of wisdom. This post won't contain Strapping Young Lad though, maybe I'll post that some other day.

Lietterschpich - I Cum Blood in the Think Tank

I managed to blow around ten dollars on complete bullshit I could've gotten for free, no it's not a CD, it was a god damn file-converter disguised as freeware.
So the moral of the story is: Don't download this piece of fuck.

So here's some angy electronics because I'm angry!

Lietterschpich - I Cum Blood in the Think Tank

This great Isreal-based act called the quits about three years ago and only released (as far as I know) this record. It's definitely leaning against power-electronics more than noise, since this stuff has pretty awesome rythms to it.
I strongly advice you to check it out if you enjoy bands like Ramleh.

Puscifer

Puscifer is definitely a band which has made the brightest of people scratch their heads. "What gives with the name?", "what gives with the current sexual topics?", "what gives with Maynard James fucking Keenan being in this band!?".
This is truly a strange affair of a record, wether it's the dance-friendly track "Queen B.", the bluesy "Momma sed" or the extravagant lounge-outro "Rev 22:20".

It's definitely an elaborate piece of work, but this is basically Maynard James Keenan's own version of a colouring book, it's strictly his ideas and it's really just him mucking about for a good 45 minutes, which kind of explains the retarded sexual names and themes.

Another evidence of this not being a serious affair is the fact that they actually released the entire album as a, brace yourself, remix album.
...
...
Remix album's are not to be taken seriously! Honestly!

Karen Cooper Complex

Firstly I would like to thank Bill for the recommendation, hey, it seems like people are giving a shit about our blog.

Karen Cooper Complex was a jazz/no-wave/utterly zaney group formed in 1970.
The album I'm going to post, "Shinjuku Birdwalk" sounds a lot like a female-fronted The Residents album, and it's just as weird and as funny like the forementioned group.

Amon Tobin

So South America can actually produce some music besides cheesy club-music, Amon Tobin produces some furiously creative electro-jazz crossover with stunning results.
"Bricolage" is his most critically acclaimed album to date, and apparently scored a flawless ten on Pitchfork.com, a rare feat, apparently.
But I must admit, I do enjoy his fourth opus "Supermodified" the most, it has more of an ambient feel to it, and is extremly dark at certain parts.

1996 - Adventures in Foam (He's labeled as Cujo on this, since that was his first moniker.)

Darkthrone

So Darkthrone have released the follow-up to their acclaimed/disclaimed effort "Dark Thrones and Bloody Flags", within the year too.
And, no, it's still some kind of black metal/punk hybrid, so now it feels like the "Blaze in the Northern sky" days'll never be back.

But, honestly, to see this more laidback version of Darkthrone is equaly awesome, it's like Darkthrone actually aim at destroying the entire "kvlt-necrofucking"-image black metal is based around and show us that they are just as stupid, rotten, smelly and as down to earth as anyone else.

God, that was a long sentence.

Anyway, here it is. Enjoy!

Shining

Today, the tiny little guys who's in control of the engine behind the walls of my skull got a rough and slightly chaotic start.

Shining's massive effort entitled "Blackjazz" was figuretively coming out of my speakers like this oozing, black-ish goo. Seriously, I had a hard time cleaning it up.

Anyways, Shining. This is the norwegian jazz/metal/rock/whatever-quartet I'm talking about, and they F***ING ROCK. 'Nuff said, just check it out.

M83

I did listen to this group a lot before, but lost my enthusiasm when I fell in to some kind of metal-only phase.
So now, in the middle of th night, I got the urge to listen to M83 again, and started out with the album I remember enjoying the most, called "Before the dawn heals us".

And it's fantastic.
I'll just leave it at that, you have to listen for yourselves to even grasp a fraction of the total awesomness that is M83.

Brian Eno

Now that my friend Filip posted some stunning ambient from 2008, I'm going to out-date him by posting a little 32-year old gem.
Of course I'm talking about Brian Eno, the man who pretty much started it all. (Okay, that's a lie.)

His first soley ambient album.
A real classic.
'Nuff said.

Hol Baumann

Hol Baumann is one of Ultimae Records many great composers. For fans of ambient music I definitely recommend checking out their whole rooster at their website. They're packin' serious heat, trust me.

Anyways, back to Hol. The man behind the mask known as "Hol Baumann" is actually a french guy called Oliver Orand. For many years this guy has been composing and producing albums, theatre, movies and documentaries. His music has its roots in the ambient-swamp, but I believe he's pretty influenced by world music aswell which really glows through this facade of ambient electronica, creating a very lush and inspiring field of sound.

Cpt. Beefheart & His Magic Band p.1

I can't say that I've been a fan for long, but Don Van Vliet was truly ahead of his time, along with Frank Zappa.
His music varies from standard, sometimes sad, blues songs to the utter zaniness of all that was the 60's (you know what I'm talking about, the hair, the attitude, the ideologies, the drugs, the drug-related trips, the drug-influenced music, the drugged up hippies, and not to forget the acid tests!).

What I'm trying to say is that the Cap'n truly has his own style, but that he also bounced around a lot between already explored genres such as blues, pop and salsa, without sounding as "commercial" which a lot of the artists those days did.
All in all, it makes him a truly remarcable musician, and artist.

I'll post the first four early albums, which are his wildcard's imo, I'll get around to the later stuff soon.

La Monte Young and the Theatre of Eternal Music

La monte young is truly an underrated musician, and is oftenly not mentioned much at all today in drone circles.
The music revolves a lot around droning synths and the occasional ambient tune.

The band was also known as The Dream Syndicate, so don't get confused if you search for any of the album titles and get that as a result.

Definetly something to check out if you're curios about early drone.

Headphonica.com

Now that I have a staggering ammount of followers (one), I'd like to recommend you all (you) about a great record company called headphonica.
They distribute around 60 small bands and artists who vary from genres such as glitch, hiphop, audio books and drone, and a lot of them are really great.

Every release from every artist is also free, so there's no reason in not visiting the page and not downloading at least one album.

So far I've enjoyed the following headphonica artists:
mr&mrsbrain, Ofir Klemperer and Ergo Phizmiz.
I'd recommend these as starters for you all.

Now, good night. It's been a heavy day's blogging.

Black Dice

People who know me are painfully aware of my fondness for this band.
Black Dice are kind of a tumbledryer in the hipster-scene, they mix a wide array of styles such as glitch, noise (soft), hiphop and minimalistic stuff into their terrific catalogue. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Tangerine Dream - Zeit

Just two years before their most applauded work, Phaedra, Tangerine Dream release this gem in 1972.

Somehow the ambient stuff from the 70's appeal to me a lot more than the modern stuff, probably because it's so stripped of all the instruments modern ambient musicians use to make their music so dramatic and epic.

Anyway, here's the link to "Zeit", and the password:

So, yes. Welcome to the Kool aid acid test blog.

Here I'll be posting a wide array of muscal embargos that reach my eardrums...

...
So let's get this going!

First out is the musical collective Jackie-O Motherfucker from Oregon.

They are widely renowned for switching members every month or so, and thus produce extremely diffrent music on all of their album's.

The music is hard to describe, but I'd say that they play some kind of droneish folk rock.
Anyway, you be the judge.
