I can't say that I've been a fan for long, but Don Van Vliet was truly ahead of his time, along with Frank Zappa.
His music varies from standard, sometimes sad, blues songs to the utter zaniness of all that was the 60's (you know what I'm talking about, the hair, the attitude, the ideologies, the drugs, the drug-related trips, the drug-influenced music, the drugged up hippies, and not to forget the acid tests!).
What I'm trying to say is that the Cap'n truly has his own style, but that he also bounced around a lot between already explored genres such as blues, pop and salsa, without sounding as "commercial" which a lot of the artists those days did.
All in all, it makes him a truly remarcable musician, and artist.
I'll post the first four early albums, which are his wildcard's imo, I'll get around to the later stuff soon.
